Dear Members and Colleagues:
With the arrival of Spring, the chapter celebrates its 45th Anniversary of our founding in 1970. HR has come a long way over these years, and our chapter continues to support the profession in “Inspiring Excellence in HR.” Congratulations to our members and all those who have served and continue to serve the chapter enabling us to be a “driving force for thought leadership, professional development, and transformational experiences for the HR Community.”
We have some additional exciting news. I am pleased to announce that we have a new Board Member, Lisa Brandt. Lisa is a Vice President of Human Resources at Sikorsky Credit Union and will be our Director of Workforce Readiness.
We are planning lots of events in the next few months. Our Programs and Professional Development Committee, headed by Robert Satterwhite, has been busy. Be sure you sign up for “Building your Brand via LinkedIn” for our May 20th meeting. We are also planning a webinar on May 5th, at noon: “Creating A Successful Financial Wellness Program that Improves Job Performance.” Registration information for both programs is available at www.soctshrm.org.
Our Diversity and Inclusion Committee, led by Sandra Greer, has put together an exciting half-day professional development program on June 9th: “Uncovering Hidden Bias in the Talent Management Lifecycle.” This program will be facilitated by Margaret Regan, the President and CEO of The FutureWork Institute. Margaret has worked with companies such as Microsoft, Glaxo Smithkline, and Towers Watson to effectively help them leverage, engage and retain diverse talent.
Our Summer Bash is coming earlier this year on June 23rd. It’s always a great opportunity to meet your colleagues and friends and to network and meet new professionals. Be sure to mark it in your calendar.
Kim Boskello is heading up our “SOCT SHRM Human Resources Professional Development Summit” on September 24-25th, which will be again be held at UConn in Stamford. We will have a day of break-out sessions targeted at current and thought provoking HR issues and a day hosted and led by Jackson-Lewis on the latest legal issues facing companies. If you would like to be considered as a speaker, please go to www.soctshrm.org for further information and a speaker’s application. Application deadline is June 1st.
Our new website managed by Mike Wiston, Director of Technology and Michele Beccarelli, Director of Marketing, Communications & Website, continues to attract and engage more visitors month over month. We are finding that the Jobs page is among the most active, both for employers and job seekers. For a limited time, all HR Jobs posted to our site are complimentary, so be sure to get your open positions listed soon! Our SOCT SHRM LinkedIn group continues to increase in membership, with over 67% of members holding a Management or Executive role in HR. If you haven’t joined, now might be a good time to connect with your colleagues. Go to: www.soctshrm.org/linkedin and join!
The SOCT SHRM chapter needs and wants your participation. Please contact me, Susan Blazer, at email@example.com or any Board Member, if you would like to explore involvement in one of our committees. I can tell you from personal experience, it’s a great way to increase your network and add to your expertise about the HR profession.
