WE ARE A SUPERIOR MERIT CHAPTER for 2009!!!

I am very proud to report that our chapter has been awarded a Superior Merit Award Chapter for our 2009 achievements. This is our eighth year in a row that the chapter has received this recognition from SHRM National!

Why is this a big deal? How does this recognition happen?

At the beginning of each calendar year, SHRM provides the chapters with a “Chapter Achievement Plan” for the upcoming year. It outlines 15 major categories on which a year-end evaluation is made. It becomes one of the planning tools used by the chapter’s Board of Directors for setting our direction.

At the end of the year, our chapter submits a report to SHRM with our results in all of the categories. Chapters that have done very well are considered Merit Chapters. Chapters that have done even better are designated Superior Merit Award Chapters … the highest designation in the SHRM world.

The Superior Merit Award designation says that our chapter is working hard to “Serve the HR Professional and Advance the HR Profession.”

    NEW BOARD APPOINTMENTS

I am delighted to announce the following two new appointments to our Board of Directors:

Jennifer Schancupp, Chairperson, Legislative Affairs. Jennifer will organize the chapter’s bi-monthly Employment Law Symposiums regarding legal topics of importance to all HR professionals in addition to providing legislative updates on our website page as well as white papers for the membership. Jennifer is Of Counsel in the Stamford office of Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the nation’s largest law firms dedicated exclusively to representing management in the workplace. Jennifer’s practice encompasses employment litigation and counseling employers on a variety of employment practices.

Kim Starr, who previously held the position, has moved to Boston to accept a new employment opportunity. We thank Kim for her many contributions to the chapter and wish her much future success.

Bobbie Lyons, Chairperson, Workforce Readiness. Bobbie will focus on programs directed to help new and returning candidates successfully enter the workforce by linking business, education, and worker training efforts. Bobbie is currently a Strategic Sales Manager in the Norwalk, CT office at The Ayers Group, a Human Resource management and consulting services firm. She is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with client companies who seek solutions to a wide range of human resource issues.

Please join me in welcoming Jennifer and Bobbie to the SOCT SHRM Board!

I look forward to seeing all of you at our 40th Anniversary Blockbuster Bash!

    Jennifer

    Jennifer Moran

    President, 2010/2011

     Dear Members and Colleagues:

Hello and welcome to the Southern Connecticut Chapter of SHRM (SOCT SHRM)!  It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the 2010-2011 President as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary.

In our changing world as professionals, we should consistently ask ourselves, “How do I add value to my organization?”  We should help our organizations ask, “How do we add value for our employees, shareholders, and customers?”

Here at SOCT SHRM, we asked ourselves that very question. How do we add value for our many constituencies:  our members and the companies they support, our sponsors who so generously support our events, our volunteer leaders who share their time and resources; and finally, how do we add value to the state and national levels of SHRM?  Ensuring that we add value is the cornerstone of our success, and we will strive to increase our value to all our constituencies and support SHRM’s mission to: “Serve the Professional and Advance the HR Profession.”

Throughout the year, we will seek to increase our value to you, our members; and I look forward to your continuing support and involvement.

    Jennifer
